Me & My Work

I am a PhD student at the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology at the University of Malta under the supervision of Dr. Ing. Reuben A. Farrugia, having received my M.Sc. ICT (Telecommunications) degree cum laude (Pass with Distinction) and a B.Sc. (Hons.) in ICT (Communications and Computer Engineering) degree summa cum laude (First Class Honours).

My main interests are in Signal Processing, particularly Image and Video Processing and Computer Vision. I have worked in forensics and image and video quality assessment-related areas, but am interested in other applications such as  automobiles/transport, Health and Biomedical imaging.

In my present research, I am working on designing a system capable of matching sketches obtained from eyewitnesses/victims of criminals to mug-shot photos maintained by Law Enforcement Agencies. In fact, this research is being done in collaboration with the Malta Police Force (http://www.police.gov.mt/mt-mt/home.aspx). I am also a member in COST action IC1106 (http://www.cost.eu/about_cost/who/(type)/5/(wid)/50328) and am supported by a scholarship from the Malta Government Scholarship Scheme (MGSS).

For the foreseeable future, I will be devoting most of my time to my PhD research, which I will (hopefully) finish in 2017/2018. However, I would like to delve into the area of 6D Vision, buy and experiment with a RaspberryPi and dabble with making Android-based apps.
