3D Point clouds for Light Fields Processing

Light fields are 4D signals capturing rich information from a scene. The availability of multiple views enables scene depth estimation, that can be used to generate 3D point clouds. This project dealt with methods to generate point clouds and processing of point clouds, such as denoising.

Work done in this area:

  1. Generation of point clouds from dense light field videos, described in ‘3D Scene modelling from dense video light fields’ paper
  2. Denoising of 3D point clouds by attempting to correct the positions of points rather than remove them, described in ‘Denoising of 3D Point Clouds Constructed from Light Fields’ paper

This work was done as part of a 1 year post-doctoral research project supported by the EU H2020 Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement No 694122 (ERC advanced grant CLIM). More information may be found here.
